Visas
Slovenian border crossing details are here: https://www.gov.si/en/topics/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/border-crossing/.
One requires a Schengen visa in order to visit the Republic of Slovenia, unless you are a European Union (EU) passport holder. The Slovenian Consulate in South Africa does not deal with visa applications. This function is taken care of on behalf of the Slovenian government by the Consular Section of the German diplomatic missions in South Africa as far as South African residents are concerned. The German missions, in turn, provide the service via TLS Contact in Cape Town, Centurion, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. (Residents of Kwazulu-Natal can apply at the Honorary Consul's Office in Durban: http://www.durban.diplo.de.) The contact details are: website: https://de.tlscontact.com/za/splash.php; call centre: +27 100 019 321; and enquiries can also be made by completing this form.
To drive on Slovenian motorways, you must buy and display a “vignette”. From 1 February 2022, Slovenia will move to an e-vignette system, which replaces the previous “sticker” vignette. The e-vignette will be linked to the vehicle registration number plate and enforced via automatic number plate recognition cameras. Weekly, monthly and annual e-vignettes can be purchased online on the DARs website or at DARs points of sale, including petrol stations and post offices. You will be asked to provide your vehicle registration and you will be given proof of purchase which you should retain for future reference. Annual e-vignettes are valid for 365 days from the designated start date.
